Beverley Manley has written an autobiography entitled The Manley Memoirs. For those of you who do not know, Beverley Manley is the ex-wife of former Prime Minister, the late great Michael Manley. We haven’t seen a copy of the book yet but Ashante Infantry from the Toronto Star has written a review on it.

I was amazed to read an excerpt of The Manley Memoirs by Beverly Manley in the Jamaican papers. I never realize that as a young woman she had the kind of family problems that she had. I was one of these children that grew up on a farm in the rural part of Jamaica. Due to what Michael Manley did for the farmers in the rural area and the introduction of Jamal classes for adults. Manley became my hero and Beverly Manley became a role model for me. I am pleased that she has finally written the long awited memoirs. I also was brought up in a similiar way where I was not accepted by family and was insulted most of the time. I was also told I would amount to nothing and no matter how hard I tried to please my elders the more insults I would

'If yu black step back if yu brown stick around, if yu white it's alright'. I am happy to know that she over came such negativity to become who she is today. This is a great read and I recommend all Patriots and wanna-be Jamaicans to read about "Joshua" and his push to make Jamaican's self-reliant by raising the standard of living for the 'forgotten' classes. Although his aspirations were misrepresented as communist, it is interesting to note that the ruling Labor Party is now trying to implement those same policies from over 30 years ago. UKshasha

In lieu of this, I must say that Manley is one of my greatest heros because of what he had aspired and envisaged as a man coming from the developing world. He did not falter or care about the attempts to tarnish his reputation as a true believer in empowering the masses and the developing world so that those nation-states of the global south can break the dependency factor .
